Birthday dress and hat for my niece

My niece just had her very first birthday!

Now that she’s becoming a toddler, I’m excited that I can make more different types of clothes for her.

Just in time for her first birthday, I made an apron dress from a Japanese sewing book. It’s the one that’s shown on the cover of the book.

I think this small floral print and the earthy colours go really well with this pattern!

This dress had more parts and steps than I thought, but since it’s so tiny it didn’t take long to sew. (I think that’s one of the best part of sewing kids’ clothes!)

The ruffles on the shoulder are so sweet and adorable.

I found this button in my stash which was had the perfect flower print on!

I also made a hat for my niece. I had this pink yarn on my stash for a while which turned out to be a perfect yarn to knit a kid’s hat.

Pattern: Classic Cuffed Hat by Purl Soho

Yarn: Concept Catena Merino Fine in 253

Apparently muted colours like this pink is really trendy right now in Japan.

This yarn is as light as a feather and super soft. It’s really great for kids hats and clothing!

Both the dress and the hat arrived in Japan a few days before her birthday. My sister sent me a few photos of her wearing them, and she was so adorable!
